Troubleshoot Inputs, Saving and Downloads

Keep the original inputs and fix the smallest part that explains the problem.

When a measurement is rejected

Check the field’s quantity and unit first. A length field does not accept an area, and a diameter is not a radius. Review zero, negative or implausible values and make sure exclusions belong to the selected surface.

Opening deductions larger than the corresponding wall or sheet area must be corrected. The post-hole tool requires a round-post diameter strictly smaller than the hole diameter, so equal or larger values are rejected. Do not repair these cases by manually changing only the final result.

When a result is unavailable

Some results need additional product information. Paint volume needs coverage; a bag count needs yield or capacity; weight needs density. A missing density does not prevent a valid area-times-depth volume.

Obtain the value for the actual selected product rather than borrowing an example. Missing prices can remain missing while quantities stay usable.

When saving fails

Do not treat the current screen as proof that the latest changes were saved. Browser storage can be unavailable or unable to accept the write. Keep the page open and download a JSON backup where possible before changing browser settings or clearing data.

The project store has limits, and the browser can impose its own. Review whether you can remove unneeded saved records only after keeping any copies you want. If stored data is reported as invalid, avoid overwriting it blindly while investigating.

When a JSON file is rejected

Confirm it is a supported PackLedge project backup, not a CSV or PDF. The current format is version 1, with a maximum of 2,000,000 bytes, 200 areas and 500 material items. Missing or unknown fields, broken area references and invalid calculator inputs can prevent import.

A duplicate project identity needs an explicit replacement or an independent copy. An ambiguous ton unit needs a specific unit choice or a volume-only interpretation. A failed import should not erase the existing saved list.

When an export is missing or unreadable

Check the browser’s download location and any displayed error. Retry after reviewing that the project contains valid material inputs. Open the actual downloaded file to confirm its contents.

Keep JSON for editable restoration and PDF or CSV for review. If a spreadsheet displays formula-like text with a protective apostrophe, do not remove that protection automatically. If further help is needed, record the page and error message without sending private notes or project contents unnecessarily.
