Your First Material Estimate

Start with one measured area and a material specification you can verify.

Choose the matching calculator

Open the calculator directory and select the material workflow. Concrete slabs and post holes use different geometry; paint and wallpaper use different coverage rules; flooring uses coverage per carton rather than tile pieces per box.

Read the short explanation above the form. Example inputs help show the method, but they do not select a construction specification or product for you.

Enter measurements and product information

Choose the relevant units and enter your dimensions. Add openings or excluded areas only where they belong. For product-dependent fields, use the coverage, yield, density or package capacity for the material you intend to buy.

Leave optional information unknown when it is genuinely missing. A bulk-material volume can remain useful without density, and a material quantity can remain useful without a price. Do not fill a field with a guessed value merely to remove a missing result.

Check the quantity layers

Review net quantity, your chosen allowance and the final purchasing quantity. If the tool rounds to whole packages, check the package specification and supplied quantity. The formula and worked example explain the sequence.

A field error should identify what needs correction while retaining your input. Check units first when a result seems unexpectedly large. An impossible opening or post-hole geometry needs a corrected measurement, not a manually edited result.

Add a named material item

Add the valid estimate to a project and give it a recognisable name. Keep the material specification and any area association with it. Matching material lines can share a purchasing group; incompatible specifications remain separate.

A project area is an organisational record. Its name or notes do not by themselves calculate or duplicate a material requirement. Review the material items linked to that area.

Save and create a portable copy

Save the project in the current browser when you want to return to it there. Check the save feedback; a failed write is not a successful save. Download a JSON backup when you want an editable file outside browser storage.

Use PDF for a readable shopping list or CSV for spreadsheet review. Those exports do not place an order. Open the file and compare its quantities and units with the project before sharing it or buying materials.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

The calculator and local project workflow do not require an account. A local save belongs to the current browser and site storage; it is not cloud synchronization.
