Build and Edit a Project List

A project keeps the measurements behind the shopping list as well as the quantities you plan to buy.

Understand areas and material items

An area identifies part of the project, such as a bedroom, wall or outdoor section. It can hold a name, measurements and notes. A material item contains a calculator input, material identity, optional price and notes. An item can refer to relevant areas.

An area record is not itself a material calculation. Copying or renaming an area does not automatically double its linked paint, tile or other material quantities. Duplicate the material item deliberately when that is what you intend.

Give the project a useful name

Choose a name you can recognise in the saved list and in downloaded files. Add notes that help you remember assumptions, such as which selected product a coverage value describes. Keep sensitive personal information out of notes you plan to share.

Add valid calculator results as named material items. Retain the original inputs rather than entering only a final bag or carton number.

Review the effect of an edit

Changing an item’s dimensions or product parameters recalculates its requirement. Changing only an area label or note does not replace a material item’s calculator input. If a room measurement changes, make sure the relevant material calculations are updated too.

When removing an area, review the material items linked to it. Removing an organisational association and deleting a material requirement are different actions. Do not assume one necessarily performs the other.

Check the purchasing groups

Compatible items can combine unrounded requirements before the final package rounding. Product specification, unit basis, package size and relevant parameters must agree. Different specifications remain separate and may show a conflict requiring review.

Add your own prices for the purchasing unit shown. Missing prices do not become zero, and different currencies do not become one automatic total.

Keep saving and backup distinct

Saving writes the project to this site’s storage in the current browser. Check the feedback after changes. If saving fails, keep the page open while creating a JSON backup where possible.

A JSON download is a portable editable record. A PDF or CSV is intended for reading or quantity review. Deleting a saved project removes that local stored record; copies you downloaded or shared remain wherever you put them.

Frequently asked questions

Does duplicating an area copy all its material quantities?

No. Area metadata and material items are separate. Duplicate the relevant material items explicitly and check their new area associations.
