Mulch for Multiple Garden Beds
Keep each bed measurable, then round the compatible total to whole bags.
Your measurements
Changing units changes the display, not the stored measurement.

Enter the measurements and product details, then calculate.
These tools estimate material quantities from dimensions you choose. They do not specify structural depth or load capacity.
Record planted areas and exclusions
Use a separate area for each bed and note spaces that will remain uncovered. A path, raised container or other excluded patch should not be counted in the mulch area. Avoid using both a total bed measurement and its component rectangles.
When beds use different materials or depths, preserve those differences. The depth entered here is your choice for the project; this page does not prescribe mulch around plants.
Example: three beds and one exclusion
Suppose beds measure 4 m by 2 m, 3 m by 1.5 m, and 2 m by 2 m. The last bed has a 1 m by 1.5 m corner left uncovered. Enter its included parts as 1 m by 2 m and 1 m by 0.5 m rectangles. The four included rectangles total 15 m². At an illustrative user-selected depth of 0.05 m, net volume is 0.75 m³.
A chosen 8% allowance increases the requirement to 0.81 m³. With a 50 L bag entered by the user, 17 bags supply 0.85 m³, leaving 0.04 m³ above the adjusted requirement.
Combine the volume, not the rounded bed counts
When the product and bag capacity agree, combine unrounded requirements before calculating whole bags. Buying each bed separately can round up several partly needed bags. Keep separate groups if the material or package specification differs.
Prepare a useful list for the purchase
Retain the bed names, chosen depth, package capacity and original measurements. If a bag changes from 50 L to another size, recalculate the count. A bag count without a capacity is not a portable material specification.
Do not infer weight from volume when density is unavailable. A volume-based order can be complete without an estimated mass.
Frequently asked questions
Can all beds share one purchase line?
Only when the material and purchasing specifications match. Their measurements can stay separate while the compatible requirements are combined.
