Enter the measurements and product details, then calculate.

An area estimate, not a cutting layout. Cuts, shape and pattern placement can affect what you buy.

Measure the rooms and small adjoining areas

Enter the floor areas that will receive the same flooring. Include closets and alcoves deliberately, and avoid counting a connecting rectangle twice. Different flooring products should remain in separate material groups even when they are part of one project.

This calculator uses coverage per carton. It does not need to infer carton coverage from the number or appearance of boards. Copy the area stated for the selected package and keep the unit with it.

Round only after calculating the required area

Add compatible net areas, apply the chosen allowance once to each requirement, then divide by coverage per carton. Round the purchase up to a whole carton. The extra coverage supplied by the last carton is separate from your selected allowance.

Cartons = ceiling(required area / coverage per carton). Purchase surplus = cartons × coverage per carton − required area.

Example: two rooms, one flooring specification

Suppose a room measures 4 m by 3 m and another measures 3 m by 3 m. Their combined area is 21 m². A chosen 10% allowance increases the requirement to 23.1 m². With an illustrative carton coverage of 2.2 m², 11 cartons supply 24.2 m².

The purchase surplus beyond the adjusted requirement is 1.1 m². The original allowance was 2.1 m². Keeping both amounts visible explains the 3.2 m² difference between the measured floor and the purchased coverage.

A different carton is a different purchasing line

Two cartons can contain different coverage even when their product names are similar. Changing carton coverage should recalculate the order, not preserve an old carton count. Keep prices attached to the purchasing unit they describe.

Review the layout separately

The result is an area estimate. It does not choose a fitting direction, optimise cuts, guarantee offcut reuse or assess the suitability of flooring for a room. Any allowance and installation requirements remain project-specific decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine several rooms?

Yes, when the flooring and purchasing specifications match. Combine unrounded required areas before the final carton count.

Is the leftover coverage guaranteed to be usable?

No. It is the difference between purchased area and the calculated requirement. Actual usable offcuts depend on the fitting layout and material.
