Concrete Bag Yield: Weight, Mixed Volume and Bag Count
A bag’s weight tells you what you carry. Its mixed yield tells you how much concrete it produces. Use the volume from the exact product’s label or data sheet in the calculator below.

Find mixed yield before entering a bag size
Look for a volume per bag, usually stated in cubic feet, litres or cubic metres. Do not enter pounds or kilograms into a volume field. Two products with the same dry bag mass need not produce the same mixed volume.
The QUIKRETE Concrete Mix data sheet lists approximate yields of 0.30, 0.375, 0.45, 0.60 and 0.675 cubic feet for its 40, 50, 60, 80 and 90 lb packages respectively. These figures describe that named product; regional availability and current labels still need checking.
| Named product package | Approximate mixed yield (ft³) |
|---|---|
| Concrete Mix, 40 lb | 0.30 |
| Concrete Mix, 50 lb | 0.375 |
| Concrete Mix, 60 lb | 0.45 |
| Concrete Mix, 80 lb | 0.60 |
| Concrete Mix, 90 lb | 0.675 |
Worked example: one cubic yard at a 0.60 ft³ yield
One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet because a yard is three feet and volume uses three dimensions. With no additional allowance and a stated yield of 0.60 cubic feet per bag, 27 ÷ 0.60 = 45 bags.
With a chosen 10% allowance, the requirement becomes 29.7 cubic feet. Dividing by 0.60 gives 49.5, so the purchase is 50 whole bags. They supply 30 cubic feet: 2.7 cubic feet is the chosen allowance and 0.3 cubic feet is package-rounding extra. Ten percent is an example input, not a manufacturer recommendation.
Compare another bag size on the same basis
Keep the job volume, allowance and units unchanged when comparing another product. For example, a 0.45 cubic foot yield would need 66 bags for the 29.7 cubic foot requirement. Multiply each whole-bag quantity by your current local price, then consider delivery and handling separately.
The package comparison tool linked below shows both options together. The bag calculator here handles a single selected product and can add the result to a local material project. No branded yield is silently filled into your form.
Keep the quantity estimate separate from the project specification
Use slab dimensions, concrete-filled hole depth and other measurements already selected for your project. This page does not choose thickness, mix strength, reinforcement, footing depth or structural suitability.
Manufacturer mixing, placement, curing and safety instructions apply to the actual product. A volume estimate cannot decide whether bagged mixing or a ready-mix delivery is practical for your site and schedule.
Frequently asked questions
How many 80 lb bags make a cubic yard?
For the named Concrete Mix product at approximately 0.60 cubic feet per bag, one 27 cubic foot yard needs 45 bags before any allowance. Check your exact product’s yield rather than treating 80 lb as a universal volume.
Can I enter yield in litres?
Use the unit shown by the form. Convert litres to cubic metres by dividing by 1,000 if that is the active field unit; do not enter a litre number into a cubic metre field.
